Paint with a peaceful mind 🎨
Join minhwa artist Youngmi Chang for a hands-on workshop in minhwa (Korean folk painting), designed especially for Korean adoptees and our wider community. Together, we’ll learn simple minhwa techniques, explore the stories and symbolism behind traditional imagery, and create art that holds meaning of our own.

Participants will be guided step by step as they create their own minhwa-inspired artwork. All art materials will be provided. These workshops are offered as an opportunity to explore identity, culture, and belonging through art—and to create space for adoptee voices and experiences 🌿

What is Minhwa 민화?

Minhwa (민화) is traditional Korean folk painting, known for its colorful imagery, symbolism, and expressive style. Often created by everyday people rather than court artists, minhwa features familiar subjects such as flowers, animals, birds, plants, and objects from daily life. Beyond their beauty, minhwa paintings often carry wishes and hopes for things like happiness, good fortune, longevity, love, and protection. Artists have traditionally used colors, symbols, and imagery to express their hopes for themselves and their families.
